When an individual or web users perform a search, search engines scour or search their index for content that is most relevant and then orders that particular content to offer a solution to the question of the individual or searcher. This ordering of search results by its importance or relevance is called ranking. In general, when a website is said to rank high, it simply means it provides the most relevant answer to queries of a searcher. 

Blocking of search engine crawlers is possible either from one part of your website or the whole of the site. There are reasons why it is done. On the other hand, your content can be found by web searchers if you make the contents easily accessible to crawlers. You can also do this when it is indexable. Not doing so makes your content invisible.
